A first for me...

Never in my life have I run a real race. I've never been an athlete or a runner. I've always admired that in others but never thought it was for me. That was until my friend Sarah suggested we run the Utah Valley 5K together. At first I thought of every excuse not to do it:

1. I'm working nights and have no energy to train.
2. I'm nursing and don't want to have to coordinate going running right after feeding Grant.
3. I don't have nice running shoes.
4. I have asthma.

You get the idea. Sarah was encouraging and so I decided to do it and I'm so glad I did.

We trained a little and my goal was to run the whole 3.2 miles without stopping. We did it!!! It was a tough run for me. At the end I though my legs might fall off, but it was awesome. My time was 31 minutes and 56 seconds. Maybe I'll do another and try to improve. For now I'm proud to say I did it and I loved having Grant and Sean cheer me on.

Can you spot us in blue?

I wanted to get a picture of me holding Grant but it wasn't worth waking him up.
Thanks Sarah for being a great trainer and friend. That was so fun!!
And because no post is complete without an update on Grant--he loves locking his knees and standing up on anything.

I tried a little craft project to help spruce up Grant's room.

This isn't supposed to happen at the end of May.

These doggie slippers keep Gran'ts feet warm when the snow falls in May.
Working night shifts is so dang hard as a mom. I never realized how easy I had it before Grant was born. I leave for work about 5:30pm, get home about 6:30am, and Grant wakes up between 7 and 8am. Sean then leaves for work and I take care of Grant all day, trying to squeeze in a nap or two during his naps. I have no energy on these days and Grant gets some lounging time in mommy's bed. I love being a labor and delivery nurse though and the health insurance is important for our family. That's why I'm still there.

Arizona Fun

We went to Arizona last week for Eric's wedding and had a blast. Two of my brothers were also in town so we spent three days at our family cabin in Greer.

Here is Grant with his sweet, great-grandma Ruth.
Rachel, Natalie, and me on the temple grounds after Eric and Tricia's sealing.
The happy couple coming out of the temple.
Our little family at the temple.
Our little family at the reception.
My mom and me at the reception
Okay so we kind of staged this one. Sean wasn't really asleep at his own brother's reception. We just wanted him to match Grant's look--asleep, big cheeks, head down, in a tux. =)
We drove to the cabin Sunday afternoon and enjoyed the cooler, mountain air. Here's mom, Grant, and me at the Greer Lodge where we always visit to walk around the beautiful grounds. (The boys were off playing golf.)
The hot water was all gone in the bathrooms after 8 people showered so Grant enjoyed the kitchen sink where there was still hot water.

Everyone enjoyed the rickety, 30-year-old, cable car that soars across the meadow. I was a little nervous so I chickened out and didn't ride it. Un-announced to me, Sean took Grant on it. Yikes. Here is the loading platform.
Grant enjoyed some tlc from Grandma Kathy.
Five kids + three light sabers = sadness and destruction
=)
(Andrew, Caleb, Grant, Sean, Rachel, & Aaron)
Grant and Aaron chillin' on the bed. Aaron loved Grant so much. He would walk up to me with his two hands pushed together and say "hold him? hold him?" He loved holding baby Grant.
Andrew and Grant relaxing at the cabin.
Some more cute pictures from here at home...

He's a growin'

Grant had his 4 month pediatrician appointment on Monday and here are the latest stats:

Weight: 16 lbs. 13 oz. (85th percentile)

Length: 25.25 in. (63rd percentile)

Head: 17 in. (81st percentile)

We're going to take our first trip with Grant today . We're flying to Arizona for Sean's brother Eric's wedding. We are so excited to see all our family. Pictures and stories to come.

This weekend was a busy one filled with family and fun. Grant got to meet Grandpa Steve for the first time. They were fast friends as you can see.

The next day Grant got to see Grandma Norine and Grandpa Glenn at a family wedding at the Timpanogoos temple.
Grant enjoyed seeing the beautiful flowers.

It's tradition to take a family picture right here on these temple grounds.

Grant also got to see Great-grandma and grandpa Oborn.
For the first time ever, Grant grabbed at and held onto a couple toys that we handed him. Here he is trying to eat his little dog named Blue.
I'm not sure what this face is but I thought it was funny enough to share.

Lovely

Life has been just lovely lately. This is such a fun time for our family of three. Occaisionally someone will ask me how I like being a mom and I don't really know how to describe it. I love it. It's so fun to get to play with my little buddy everyday and care for him and teach him. I'm so grateful he's in our lives. In church on Sunday we sang the hymn, "God Loved Us So He Sent His Son." Of course this song is referring to the atonement of our Savior, but in another way, I thought of Heavenly Father's love for Sean and me and how He sent us another one of His sons, Grant. We feel very loved.

Here's how I find my baby when I go get him in the morning (not on the changing table, just with his feet out). He kicks his feet out of his jammies without unsnapping anything. He's a wiggler for sure.

Grant and I enjoy the sunshine and try to get outside everyday.
After a terrific stake conference, Sean and Grant pose for a quick picture. Sean is excercising his freedom to sport facial hair now that he's done with BYU.
On this day Grant got the "Worst-dressed Baby Award". His outfit evolved throughout the day (due to changing temperatures, activities, and accidents) and somehow he ended up looking like this. Don't worry, I wouldn't let him out of the house like this. =)
Our neighbors planted some beautiful daffodils and tulips so we decided to enjoy them.

Here is Grant trying out his new (used) bumbo chair. I love how he rests his arms on the side like a little throne.

I must share these

I know I post so many pictures of Grant on this blog but since all our family is far away we have to keep them updated. Here you go grandparents--more pictures of little Grant to make you smile. Hope you enjoy.

Grant would like to wish everyone a Happy Easter!!!

Is this not the saddest/cutest face you've ever seen?
