Just Because...

Here is Grant's new hair cut. I did it myself. It is so hard to get him to sit still long enough to trim. It's a little patchy in the back but at least the long curls don't stick to his head with sweat anymore.

***P.S. Here's a funny story for you. Today Grant and I were at a ward pool party. We swam for a bit and then got out to enjoy some watermelon. As we were sitting on a white, plastic chair I heard a loud crack and then both Grant and I plopped on the floor. Yep, we broke the chair with our body weight. Can you say "weight watchers commercial"? It was really funny but embarassing too. I guess we need to lay off the watermelon. =)

18-Month Growth Stats

Weight: 23 lbs. 14 oz. (20%--the smallest percentile he's ever been at)
Height: 33 in. (70%)
Head: 19.5 in. (90%)

Still long and lean with a large noggin. Just the way we like him.

The latest words that Grant proclaims: ah-chooooo, bumble bee, yellow, pool, and choo-choo train.

Doing well. Happy. Healthy. Surviving nursery--barely. =) Hopefully he gets a little less attached to mommy and daddy soon. Otherwise, we'll be going to kindergarten with him.

Last week...

...was not Grant's week. Here's why...

  • he caught a bug (virus) his first day in nursery

  • two days later his fever was 103 degrees, he was coughing, had a snotty nose, and was so sad and clingy

  • we delt with it for a couple days on our own, then I took Grant in because he wasn't eating or drinking and he had diarrhea

  • it was just a virus--of course we can't do anything for it besides the regular "comfort" measures

  • two more days of dealing with it led to a coughing fit Friday night that would not stop. Grant coughed so hard he threw up multiple times. He could barely catch his breath between coughs.

  • So we took a trip to urgent care where the NP said his lungs sound "horrible" and presumed it was pneumonia.

  • After a strep test (which was negative) a chest x-ray (which showed no pneumonia) and a breathing treatment (which he was hysterical for) we left not coughing and with a diagnosis of a virus.

  • Then the next day we tried to have a little fun by playing outside in our kiddie pool. Grant slipped on wet concrete, fell down face-first and split his lip. With blood gushing out of his mouth and a chunk of lip dangling, I thought we'd have to take this poor boy back to urgent care for stitches. Turns out the bleeding stopped fairly quickly, and Grant pulled the piece of lip off (I tried to stop him). An otter pop helped with the tears too.

  • Then a few days later (with him feeling better) we went to his 18-month well-baby check up and he got one more shot.

  • All I can say is, that was not his week.

  • Here's to him feeling better, doing better, and going a whole few days without a major incident. =)

Lately...

We celebrated father's day with a couple small gifts, cookie dough truffles, and lots of hugs for daddy. Grant sure loves his daddy. He asks all day for "da da" and when Sean comes home from work, Grant doesn't let him out of his sight until bedtime.

We had visitors. Adam and Dave came to town and we had fun. The boys swam in the river, played racquetball, we had a barbeque, and played games.

This past Sunday was Grant's first official day in nursery. I can't believe he's old enough for that milestone. He was sad and crying at first so Sean stayed with him for about 30 minutes. Then Sean left and the rest of the time Grant clung to the 18-year-old nursery teacher and wouldn't let go. At least he stayed in there the whole time though right? Here is a picture on our way to church.

And of course, Happy 4th of July! We celebrated by just being together. We did our weekly grocery shopping this morning, had a yummy breakfast made by Sean, played uno, had Eric over, played in the backyard, and ended the day by going out to dinner while Grant played at home with grandma and grandpa. It was a terrific day. Happy Birthday America! (Grant's shirt says "All-American Baby Boy Champ".)

With temperatures reaching 119 lately (yuck) we've enjoyed our inflatable kiddie pool out back. The hose water is pretty cool actually and we stay in the shade of our patio. So it's pretty fun and sunburn free.
