Vacation to Flagstaff

Last weekend we took a much-needed break from the busyness of life and drove north to Flagstaff. Sean had a little time off work and a break from school so we had to take advantage of it. We rented a nice condo, brought all our own food to save money, and enjoyed the cooler, mountain air.

This was our first vacation as a family of five and it presented it's challenges. You have to pack a lot of stuff! Schedules were off (which is what we thrive on at home). Naps were not great. The rains poured for one whole day. Grant fell and split his lip. Preston fell and got a bloody nose. We were exhausted and grouchy at times. But I can say we did have a good time overall and I am glad we made memories together as a family.

We enjoyed hiking, swimming, walking historic Route 66, picnicking, playing games, playing at parks, and touring an outdoor children's science festival.

Storm of the Century

One week ago we experienced a storm like none I have ever seen. I rained for over 6 hours without stopping. Everything was saturated and flooding. Gilbert received about 4 inches of rain in one day! Our front tree had absorbed so much water weight that about 2/3 of it fell down. This created a lot of work for Sean and our neighbor. Our streets were flooded. Our park was filled to the top with water. Sean went into work an hour and a half late because of bad roads and delays. Our backyard flooded and water covered our cement patio. It was almost up to the sliding-glass door, but luckily, it didn't make it in. We were grateful that the damage was limited to our yard and not our home or our cars.

Preschool

Well we officially have a preschooler in the house. Grant started at Apple Blossom Preschool this week.
He was not happy at the open house. He told me he was really nervous and didn't want to go.

The obligatory first day of school photo.
Every day Preston says "me go preschool? me go preschool?" Poor guys feels left-out.

All smiles on the second day carpooling with his friend. He loves it now!

Labor Day

Grant and Sean ventured to Utah last weekend for Labor Day. I stayed home with the babies. The boys spent lots of time with the Oborn family and enjoyed a change of pace, scenery, and weather.

They spent time in southern Utah hiking and throwing rocks in the stream. (Grant was cold so he was wearing an extra layer.)

They visited my dad's grave in Midvale, Utah. We haven't seen it in 4 years. That was so thoughtful of them to stop by and remind Grant of Grandpa Dave.

They visited Rachel and Mike and met their brand new sweetie, Sarah Jane Peterson.

They played with Eric and enjoyed the pleasant summer evenings.

On Sunday they attended the baby blessing of Eric's new son Tanner.
It was a quick weekend trip and lots of driving but the boys had fun! We missed them while they were gone.
