Happy Halloween!

 Picking out a pumpkin...

and painting it instead of carving--much easier, much cleaner, and much less dangerous.

And Preston's large cheeks and lips for your viewing pleasure. And he's balding now on the sides and back but the top is still his long, newborn hair.
Precious boy giggling and showing off his adorable personality.
Can you tell what Grant was for Halloween? (The doggie costume was too hot and too big.) He's a red lego block. It was simple and inexpensive to make and he got so many compliments on it. What a stud.
And my sweet, round pumpkin. The jack-o-lantern part glows in the dark too.

Ruff Ruff

Our friend lent us a doggie costume for Grant. Oh he was excited to try it on. Here's our little doggie (the only one we'll ever have) named Bo Bo.

Here's our little Preston at 3 months old on Oct. 2, 2012. He's over 15 pounds now.

We finally got a picture of Grant with a genuine, adorable smile. This is the face I'm in love with.

And this is the second face I'm in love with. Preston smiles, coos, and even laughs. How precious he is at 3 months old. I love that we are out of the newborn phase.  =) And guess who finally slept through the night? That's right folks. My little boy is doing better and sleeping longer and all of us are much happier.

Between conference sessions we went to the temple. Grant ran up to the reflecting pools and said, "Mom, take my clothes off so I can go swimming." We had to have a little lesson on how we don't swim at the temple. We then went to the visitors center and he saw this statue and excitedly announced, "Mom, Jesus is here!"

Afternoon Projects

I try to have some type of "arts and crafts" project for Grant every day. Usually it's just coloring, drawing, etc. But last week I got brave and got out the paints and brushes. Grant absolutely loved it and did well at keeping the paint on the paper. Here is our budding artist using a paintbrush...

and then using a cut-up potato as a "stamp"(we saw this idea on tv).
Later we found the harry potter glasses in our halloween box
My crafty project for the week was these fabric pumpkins. These were really fun and cheap to  make. (The fluff inside is plastic grocery bags.)
And while we crafted, Preston held down the fort in his tough-guy camo outfit.

Falling for Fall

I am so excited for fall. It's officially here. The mornings are cool and wonderful. The planning and decorating for halloween has begun. Grant has been practicing saying "trick or treat" for a few days now. He's beyond excited to get candy.

Preston tried on his pumpkin halloween costume.

Daddy and the boys built a fort while I was at a yw meeting. Grant is eating a lemon inside his fort. I never knew anyone liked to eat lemons plain.

Experimenting with my new DSLR camera. I have a long ways to go but i'm excited to learn.

Enjoying the splash pad one more time before the water gets too chilly.

Just another picture of my sweet boy who still doesn't love to sleep. =)

And guess who got a big boy bed? Yep, we finally transitioned Grant to the bottom bed of the new bunk beds we bought. I really like how they turned out and he's actually doing quite well with the change.

Grant loves his stuffed animals and has to sleep with all of them.

Preston's room is finally complete. He is out of the pack-n-play and into the real crib. I'd still like to make a crib skirt sometime--we'll see if that happens. And it's too warm for quilts right now, but as soon as it cools off we'll take that rag quilt off the wall and use it to keep warm. =)
This is the blank wall I finally filled up. I got the custom vinyl off etsy and added a large version of Preston's baby announcement in the frame. I like how the elephant theme is on the valence, the ottoman, and the wall.

Jesus loves everyone

Preston turned 2 months old on Sep. 2nd so I took some more pictures in his blessing outfit before he outgrows it. I love the delicate needlework on the front and the little tiny belt. So sweet. Preston has started cooing and "talking" and his smiles come more frequently too. I love when babies can start to respond back and sort of communicate.

I took him to his 2-month appointment and he has sure grown! Preston weighed in at 13 pounds, 8 ounces. He's 24 inches long and his head is very large at 16.75 inches around. He's not wasting anytime growing bigger that's for sure. He's struggling with fussiness, irritability, and not sleeping so we're looking into a milk allergy or acid reflux disease. It's not fun for any of us but hopefully we can find the reason he's so fussy and fix it quickly. He hasn't slept through the night but hopefully soon. We all need some sleep around this joint.
And big brother is so talkative these days. He asks me questions all day long and his favorite right now is "Mommy, what time is it? The other night before family prayer, Grant points to me and proclaims, "Jesus does not love you mommy." I had to hold back the laughter because it took me by surprise. Needless to say, last night our family home evening lesson was on how Jesus loves everyone, even mommy. Silly boy. Makes me laugh. He has a great memory and relates and compares things all day long. He is more independent than ever and even has play dates without mommy.

August

August is one of our busiest months. In the last couple weeks we celebrated our 5-year wedding anniversry, my 26th birthday, Sean's 27th birthday, and our new baby's 8-week birthday. =) Here's a glimpse.

Grant adores mowing the lawn with Sean. He follows him around the whole yard and absolutely loves it. He comes back in and tells me "I finished mowing the lawn mom."

Grant and cousin Lucas sharing the Cozy Coupe. Maybe a little too cozy?

And Preston's first (and I'm sure not last) ride in the doll stroller. Look at how happy Grant is to push him around. And look at all that hair on my little Preston. As far as I can tell, he hasn't lost any from birth.
Well we are still busy here. My definition of a successful day is...
-Both boys are fed, changed, and entertained
-Mom gets a shower
-Mom gets mascara on (that's it though)
-No one cries for more than 15 minutes at a time
-Grant doesn't watch too much PBS

That's how I judge my day. Whew! Some life huh?

Busy

Life with two kids is sure busy. We are getting the hang of things slowly. When both kids are fed, changed, bathed, and happy I feel on top of the world.

Grant adores his baby brother and would hold him, touch him, and tickle him all day if I let him.

Grant has had some fun play dates with grandma which include swimming and ice cream cones in the summer heat.

Grant is new to the bicycle world and is still working on the task of pedaling. He sure loves his helmet though so that's great for me.

Here is out sweet baby Preston enjoying some tummy time.

Once again, adoring his brother and probably getting a little too close for comfort. =)

Grant lines up all his cars in between the stair railings. He loves doing this. When I ask him to smile for the camera this is what I get--an awkward "showing the teeth" face.

Our sweet baby is one month old here--August 2, 2012

Preston Keith Oborn was given a name and a blessing by Sean on Sunday, August 5, 2012. It was a beautiful day and so special for me as his mommy. We enjoyed time with family and yummy food too.

We attempted to get a decent family picture but it sure is tough with a two year old that races away and a newborn who makes funny faces due to his gas. This will have to do.

Four generations together

I love Preston's summery, little romper I found online. And even his shoes fit well--that never happens.

Here is Preston in his undershirt, all undressed and ready to eat.
